Leigh Binskin is a mixed media artist whose work explores the emotional landscape of place, memory, and belonging.
Deeply influenced by her Scottish heritage and her chosen life in Australia, Leigh’s practice reflects a strong connection to everyday items, the land and the layered stories they hold. At the heart of her work is a desire to honour legacy and evoke a sense of shared history—both personal and cultural. Leigh creates evocative compositions by layering historic photographs, handwritten notes, and her own intricate sketches with transparent acrylic glazes. These elements act like archaeological layers—revealing fragments of lives lived, places loved, and moments remembered.

Thrilled to share that my artwork “Luna’s Legacy Of Laughter” has been selected as a finalist in the Waverley Woollahra 9x5 Landscape Prize 2025.

This prize invites artists to reflect on the beauty and diversity of the Australian landscape through a 9x5 inch format on plywood — paying homage to early artists who painted on cigar box lids. This artwork celebrates the enduring spirit of Sydney’s Luna Park — a place where joy, history, and imagination come together. Beneath the painted night-time landscape lies a collage of historic images of Luna Park, connecting the present to its rich and playful past.
